people on both sides get misguided by rhetoric, they do not allow themselves to think independently , and find a way to resolve this issue. Both sides want the same things in life, all humans want the same thing, and it is not really mutually exclusive. but if people can stand up and not to allow themselves to be dragged around by governments, may be we can have peace.

I am glad to have found this blog. Best wishes! It seems so obvious that people should be able to see through the bounderies of specific identity to the humanity common to all of us. It seems so evident and so easy, but it’s at times like this when I see that it isn’t. For those whose personal identity is so close to a group identity, it’s really hard. I hear otherwise reasonable people saying totally unreasonable things. And on both sides, people who don’t stick to the party line get ostracized.

But this is how atrocities can happen. Until we get beyond this, I’m afraid “Never again” will remain nothing more than a pious wish.

I am sorry I’ve not yet responded to your email, but I WILL! I am working my way back from the first to the last and it’s taking a lot more time than I anticipated.

As for your comment, I think we agree that ‘group’ identity / what many consider ‘national’ identity is an atrocious thing. I’m trying to work my mind out of that and toward a ‘human’ identity…to believe it and to live it and make it a part of my daily routine and means of thinking. It’s difficult enough as is, and you’re dead on when you recognize that we are ostracised for refusing to give into the party/national/identity line. I’ve had numerous disagreements – most of which have been heated – about this very subject.

To be quite honest, I don’t know if we’ll ever see a resolution, most definitely not a near one. I have to have faith that we will down the line.
