I adopted another child.
That makes three that I support financially on a monthly basis, Alhamdulilah. I can’t adopt physically at the moment, but a very important part of my future will be to physically bring one child into my family, Inshallah.
If you haven’t made your resolution yet, consider making one for yourself (as is the norm, they’re usually something akin to “I shall lose my fat a** this year…”) and one for this world. Email me if you want some direction.

I’ve joined the local community supporters of an improved healthcare system in the US at the end of 2006, so hopefully that’s a start, but in general I am going to be more proactive about issues outside of my own this year.
But yeauh, I’d really like to lose my fat a** as well! HAHAHA
(A propos of nothing, I have an aunt that served as a teacher in Turkey for decades, and she exclaims “Inshallah” as well–I am so ignorant, Maha, but do they share the same dialect as you do in parts of Turkey?)

You know Maha, I was watching Al Jazeera English today while on my mid-day break and this show named witness came on.
In this particular episode of this documentary/real life stories show, they were covering the experiences of two canadian families who were adopting children from a small orphanage in Russia.
The story stuck a chord with me, and although I have thought about at some point adopting children, I have to confess that I have not given it serious thought, ever.
Now, however, I feel that this owuld be something awesome to do. Just seeing the faces of the children light up at the smallest doll, and the prospect of going somewher warm was amazing.
One of the families adopted a girl named Olga, who came from a family of 10 children, all of whom were abandoned by the parents. Olga was in this orphange with her older brother.
When departing with her new family, the scene between brother and sister was sooo heartbreaking. Wallah. I was like man, that sucks. They have no one but themselves, and now even they have to leave each other.
But check it, the canadian family that adopted Olga had spent about 18,000 in doing and they just couldn’t take that finan cial hit again for her brother even though they really wanted to. So, they applied for a student visa for him, and said that he could live with them and theyw ould just update his visa every year. So, eight months later, at 11:20 am, little Olga got the surprise of her life seeing Dimitris, her brother, walk into the living room with a sheepish grin.
God have mercy. Amazing. I love canucks. I love good people. And I definitely love the idea of adopting after this episode. Keep on sistah!

As for ‘inshallah’, that is in fact an Arabic word, rooted in the Quran. It translates to ‘if God is willing’ and so it is used all across Muslim countries from Albania, Bosnia, Yemen, Morocco, the Middle East, Chechnya, etc

Uzi, that’s a really heartwarming story, thank you for sharing it. Adoption is something I’ve always wanted to do and inshallah will be a reality one day. A couple of kids of my own, and a couple of others that are in need of homes and love. It’s one of the greatest things we can do as Muslims and so that in and of itself is all the encouragement I need or want.
