Love for Humanity

This man, Imam Zaid Shakir, has a capcity to stir my heart. In light of what is happening across this world and what has been brought home to the likes of people I love (T) in Virginia, I think the message in this video is timely.

It is a 28 minute speech and it might just touch your heart (please note he begins the lecture with a short few words in Arabic, less than a minute). I was listening to this on my iPod and I had to listen to it in short intervals because I found myself overwhelmed by his message.

If his words have spoken to you as they have to me, then take a little walk through his home on the interWeb and listen to other lectures and read some of his work (scroll down).

I would love to hear your thoughts on the lecture.

Okay WOW! is the perfect thing to say to this. He's a beautiful speaker and his message is so needed these days, I don't think we realise how much strength really rests in love.

Thank you for sharing this, Maha.

Colleen
p.s. I spent a better part of my day reading some of his articles ~ he's really something and so is Islam. The messages are ones that I found were lost in my own faith (Catholic) :( But this gives me hope still!

Maha, I'm going to ask this because you've sort of become my touchstone on Islam. I don't know a thing about it but I have a ton of questions so I hope it's okay that I ask this since it's something I've always wondered about!

WHY AREN'T YOU ALLOWED TO DRINK ALCOHOL???? Seriously, I don't know how you do it, lol!

ASKED WITH MUCH LOVE!

Maha- been too long, sunshine. Too long, indeed.

Nice video, really liked it. I would have something like if for you too, but alas, Urdu is not one of your fortés.

Anyway, I have to tell you two things:

1. I got fired. (Check your @mac.com email)

2. If and when I come to Ottawa, we totally need to hook up and chill. I am warning you in advance of this because I have to be honest, I am one of the best, most coolest humans ever created by our gracious and benevolent lord. Therefore, you should mentally prepare yourself for our meeting, you know?

ciao
much love

Planck's Constant - Welcome.

Some of your jokes are worthy of a little chuckle.

I will not delete your chosen means of communication nor will I block your IP. But...I *will* forgive your actions. And, I *will* keep you - specifically - in my prayers and ask that you be shown love in your life. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that to show love, one has to receive it in equal measure. And to show hate...well, likely we're all smart enough to figure the rest of this one out.

So to you, more than most, I say: May Allah bless you and may He bring peace to your life.

To everyone else who lives here, I ask that none of you respond to this individual.

Salaam.

Maria,

There are a multiplicity of reasons for the prohibition of alcohol and I'll only address a few so as to make this easier. But it is more than the prohibition of alcohol - it is the prohibition of intoxicants:

First: The loss of control - *any* minute amount of control over your actions (physical, spoken).

Second: The use of any intoxicant as a means to escape reality. For those with Faith/Iman, their escape needs to be into Allah, not into a bottle.

Third: Physical ill-effects of alcohol on your body. To name a few, apart from the killing of your brain cells:
1. Through alcohol, the stomach gradually loses its ability to function properly.
2. Causes loss of appetite.
3. It spoils ones facial features.
4. Makes one age quicker.
5. Weakens and reduces the ability to think and speak properly.
6. Causes heart failure.

Fourth, the social ills associated with the consumption of alcohol.

Fifth, the money one spends on alcohol is better spent elsewhere. Rather than spending $100 on something that will kill your brain cells, donate the $100 to a charity that works to educate individuals who do not have ready access to education.

Finally, as a Muslim, we must believe that anything which Allah prohibits (and alcohol is one of the biggest prohibitions), he has prohibited for good reason.

There are others who can better contextualise this for you, if the above isn`t enough...let me know, doll.

I'm going to see if I can find a youtube thing on this for you.

To all others, I'll be back to respond later, I promise! :)

Maha, you're a bigger person than I am.

The video was bitching! I've sent it to a bunch of others.

I really want to write something mean to the person who posted the "jokes" but I won't.

Thanks so much for the information, Maha - that makes a lot of sense :-)

Tommy, I totally get what you're saying about wanting to respond to that person above. Maha, you're a better person than I am for responding in this way and not in the easier way.
