I can vouch for this in terms of my own life and my parent's lack of involvement in it. And I also have seen dirctly the influence on my children the behavior of myself and their father.
Being a parent isn't a full time job or something to take lightly, it's a changing of your life and if you're not prepared then it's not for you.
