ROCKY I, II & III
For the record: The best scenes in the first three Rocky films are the ones between Mickey & Rocky. Especially in Rocky I. They are poignant and speak to the relationships between men, between father and son, between friends.
One of the best scene stills to ever make cinematographic history is the final still in Rocky III when the camera freezes Apollo and Rocky lunging for one another. This may be a cliche, but that still is pure beauty in motion.
I know that Rocky speaks more to my generation than others; it also speaks more to men than women, but to those females who have yet to see this movie, or who have seen and chosen to ignore it...watch it once more because Rocky I may be one of the greatest love stories ever written.
And Balboa may just be as much your kind of man as he is mine. Equal parts fighter and protector, heart, devotion, loyalty, tenderness and humility.

Lady Canuck, what a nice surprise to hear you like Rocky flicks. Yo, Adriene!
They were very good movies. Nice little diddy here.
Always good to read what's going through your mind.
Mata ne...
Maha, I will admit this only to you, because I know you understand. I've seen all the Rocky movies (more times than I can remember), and I even have Rocky-fests, watching a Rocky movie every night of the week. I love them all, but the first one really is the best. I saw it when I was 11 & I remember how much of an impression it made on me.
Today was a bluer than blue day, so I took the kids to Blockbusters, thinking that maybe a comedy would help get me through these freaking potholes of despair and unworthiness that I usually avoid, but for some reason today they must have been 10 feet in circumference cause I fell right in. A comedy did not help...I should've meandered over to the Action section & picked up Rocky instead. He would've reached down & pulled out a little hope for me today, with his determination & courage in the face of defeat....and with his love for Adrienne. It really is a beautiful love story.
If I'm ever blessed to have someone to share my life with, I'm choosing the Rocky-Balboa-kind-of-man. (Cue Rocky Theme....)
Reading you always lifts my spirits, ma belle.
Hi Hawk & thank you :) I promise to get around to paying very close attention to that email as soon as things quiet down - with Ramadan in the mix, I am literally going hour by hour :)
Chantal - Rocky is the film for all blue days! He really is. I own the special edition Rocky I and it's amazing to watch and hear the actors describing the making of the movie. I highly recommend you get your hands on it :)
I came in to say that I'm so sorry you're having a blue day. There's nothing worse than those- and they are, unfortunately never-ending. And I know that doesn't seem like the most uplifting thing to say, but in a way it is because it means that we learn to cope (even if we don't want to). You've given me an idea of something to write about later today, inshallah. The idea of trial and tribulation within my own faith - why it has to happen. I hope from it you can draw some sort of strength.
All my love,
Maha
I look forward to reading and reflecting on your thoughts with an open heart. Blue days may be our saving grace (or one of them, anyways!), and as you say, they teach us volumes on learning to cope. I'm fortunate to be able to draw strength from great sources when I need to: my family, my friends, my faith (those are great F words, aren't they?).
Thanks be to God for you (and Rocky I),
Love
Chantal :)
I agree with you on all of the above point, Canuck. Rocky Balboa is the kind of man many of us wish we could be!

Rocky was the love of my life throughout my teenage years! What a beautifull story it will always be. (My least favorite was Rocky Five :(
