On Kuffaar

Don't send me anything in which you call anyone a kaffir.

That word has no home in my heart.
That word has no place in the way I live my faith.

If it is a word you are quick to use, then I strongly recommend you get back to basics re our deen and busy yourself with your own problems, rather than playing Allah and choosing to judge the hearts of others. Last I checked, my sisters and brothers, it's only those who are too weak of spirit and accomplishment that feel a need to point out the so-called 'faults' of others in a wanting attempt to make themselves better people.

If you wish to start a dialogue on this issue, then do it here and publicly, because there is nothing I would enjoy more.

That's funny, Chestery!

Maha, sorry you're having to deal with such nonsense. Kafir is someone that's a non believer in Islam, right? I remember you mentioned that elsewhere a long time ago. Someone please tell me if I'm wrong!! I think you should have a side link with words that are Arabic and their equivalent Engl;ish to help us mere mortals ;)

Man, you must be getting some shit to post something like this. I love it when you crack a few heads with some simple phrases like "feel a need to point the so-called 'faults' of others in a wanting attempt to make themselves better people". You make us proud, M. -lily

Chestry, that's *hilarious* :)
You rarely post, but when you do, you aim to please! Well done....

B - what the f*&K is wrong with you and I that we haven't been able to connect on the telephone? I'm out tomorrow and I will have limited access to internet (by choice!) so I will get in touch inshallah as soon as I'm back! I MISS YOUR VOICE!

Colleen, you're right. Technically, a 'kaffir' is someone who covers and turns their heart away from The Message. Very specifically, and in fine detail, it is someone who has heard the message of Islam (specifically) and has shunned that message. It is a very very very heavy word to use, and the immediate connotation is that a Kaffir is hell-bound. I refuse to believe this, and more importantly, I refuse to trespass a decision that is ONLY in the hands of God (judgment on who goes to hell and who goes to heaven).

The English word - the closest, anyway - would be somewhere between a non-Believer and an athiest whose studied Islam and refused to pay attention to it's message. Islam, because it is the continuation of Judaism and Christianty and therefor considered one and the same.

bla bla bla :)

Lily, I think I really like you ;)
