Something F*cked Up This Way Comes
Have you read about this yet?
These are teenagers. They are no longer children. Although - clearly - their minds have not yet developed fully (and I can't help but wonder if with this much stunted growth already, what kind of stellar brain power they will have in the future), they are old enough to know what's right and what's wrong. Albeit a lacking one, they possess the ability to distinguish which actions are acceptable and which are not.
And yet...and yet...
And what of their parents?
Well. According to the Trash Mother of one of the Trash Teenagers, the Trash Teenager was provoked into this behaviour. Forget that the Trash Parent isn't sophisticated enough to make a distinction between justification and explanation, and is not attempting her speak to help us understand, but is rather using her Trash Tongue to justify her Trash Kid's actions...
Well done, mamas and papas. Well done! You get an A for A**hole. Thanks for the exceptional future you're building through your children.
And if the woman who was beaten did in fact post something inflammatory on her mySpace, then where the hell is her parental control? (Am I blaming the victim, here? Because. Seriously? Seriously. If she is indeed talking sh*t about the other kids, then her actions need to be brought under speculation so that the situation may be traced back to the source. Something, somewhere would have set this off. Something, somewhere went wrong and that - whatever it is - remains the catalyst for what we're seeing today. And if that very thing isn't rectified now, then this situation will never cease.)
If anyone wishes to dispute the level of control you can exert over your child - and that this is in no way to be associated with / blamed on / traced back to the mamas and the papas - then bring your stupid, disassociated, uneducated, wanting excuse for a life-view on. There is nothing I would enjoy more, at this moment, than discussing the messed up individualistic, alienist, Leviathenesque jack-ass behaviour of these teens and the direct correlation of this behaviour to their parents' lack of direction, lack of morality, lack of kindness, lack of humanity and lack of making clear accountability and responsibility. I can guarantee that these kids have never understood the concept of either the later.
...and an excellent Monday morning to you, sunshine...

It's precisely this sort of writing that attracted me to your blog.
I think that few people have the ability to bring down the sort of jackhammer you just brought down, Maha.
Were you ever a part of a debate team or anything? I don't think you're someone I'd like to challenge when it comes to the way you've set up your belief system. What's even stranger is that you have an unbelievable level of tolerance at the same time.
I hope this Monday morning isn't what's going to set the tone for the rest of your week :)
Thomas
Fuck I love it when you bring down the rain!!
Did you hear that Dr. Phil bailed out one of the girls who lured and beat the girl? He's a fucking asshole.
Blame Oprah for her 10 minute heal your life plan. Easy enough when you're a multi-millionaire, Opi. Not so much when you're a normal human being who can't buy your life's happiness. Dr Phil and Oprah are perfect for one another. One asshole to another whose most humiliating moment was not being let into a fucking Louis V shop. Remember that? -lily
Holy crap! These people are our future? :s
Is this what the workplace is going to become? What about the gym...or the neighbourhood park...or the public swimming pool.
Who do these idiots think they are?
The lack of remorse is what really worries me.
I'm tempted to make a you tube video titled 'Teenage gang beating here' to get their attention and then proceed to tell them they're all stupid fucks if they get their jollies watching people getting snuffed. I'll use the video to give them instructions on how they can video themselves beating themselves up so whenever they feel like watching a video of someone getting beat up, they can go watch themselves be idiots.
Maha I don't think I would ever want to dispute anything with you and I second Thomas's questions: Were you ever on the debate team? How can you still somehow be tolerant?
Lisa that's a great idea! I will be a part of that video if you want!!
That lack of remorse is because they werent' raised to be responsible. They don't give a shit about their actions because they don't think of them as "theirs" or as them being wrong. It's fucked up. Right Maha?
hugs
Maria
Great post Maha - I'm with you 100%
And this is why I have an inevitable fear of sending my kids to school (and home school sounding much more appealing)! While I raise mine to respect other people, say please, thank you, no thank you, sorry, etc....there are parents who don't teach their kids basic respect towards other people. What has happened to society? Why are kids these days so "angry", disrespectful, and unaware of other people's feelings? And why are the parents allowing this to happen? My children are only 4 and 3, but of course they're starting school soon (and the school is directly across the street from our house). I hear them when the school bell rings and is scares the bejesus out of me. Vulgar mouths, threating to beat up the kid walking alone (and yes, I got so pissed one time I actually went outside and told the little bastards off so they'd leave the little loner boy alone for that day). A kid's greatest teacher is their parents, but what happens when the parents need a teacher themselves? Where did it go wrong?
Great post, Maha.
"Where did it go wrong?" - the biggest problem is that most people don't even bother asking that question anymore......
Any takers?

Simply (but unfortunate) answer: All our lives are on display in the media these days.
Media has taught todays teens that notoriety = success. In the teenage struggle to find their identity and their place in this world, they are profoundly vulnerable to this message.
I agree with Lisa.
I also think that it's a lot to do with the quote Maha's just put up after this post about responsibility. She mentioned it in this post also.
There are so few people who "own" anything anymore. That's being passed down to the next generation and it's FUCKED UP. People are pathetic.......and 'people' are parents and they're raising kids that fucking walk through life feeling entitled without being responsible.
Hey Lisa, have you seen that asswipe Heidi Montag? She's some random fucking loser from a reality tv show and she basically epitomizes the sort of shit you're talking about. WHY DO WE EVEN KNOW HER? Or an idiot like Kim Kardashian whose famous for her enormous ass?
Melissa, I get what you're saying aobut your kids.......I don't know about homeschooling, though? MAHA - THOUGHTS ON HOMESCHOOLING? -lily
I will respond soon to the comments here...promise...

Part of it, especially in the states, has to do with the schooling as well. The schools are terrified of the parents because they are TRASH, so therefore child are allowed to bully, intimidate, harass, best up, etc and get away with it. The victims are blamed much the same as a rape victim (because heaven only knows they must have done SOMETHING to provoke whatever it was - even though no one can articulate what the SOMETHING is)No one investigates because they don't want to be bothered or don't feel like dealing with the mess it will create - even the cops don't want to deal - so the children get away with it - the parents don't give a shit - and we have new generation of A-holes. Sad really.
Hi anonymous Mon May 12, 06:23:00 PM...
I've heard that argument, too. Parents are so busy spoiling their children that "discipline" from any other source is cause for retaliation and intimidation. I've had two teachers tell me they were too scared to act on what they saw because of the blowback from the parents.
It really is a generation of A-holes, atleast in some places...
I wonder if and how the tide will shift in the future?
Thanks for your comment :)
