He asked how to get rid of writer’s block. In answering, I told him that his bigger problem is his contempt for the success of others; also, that he, like the rest of us writers, is insufferable: How do you allow the innards of your brain and heart to be scrutinized by others? You just do. There’s no step-by-step program here again, you just do. You get over yourself and your need to be loved by complete and total strangers and you do it.
You believe in yourself and you blow through. And what happens if someone tells you that your writing is horrendous? That is rejection. And if you think you can go through life either protecting yourself from rejection or not being rejected, you have already failed.
