I’m no fan of Hillary Clinton — to the extent that I would have a difficult time voting for her in a general election if she were the Democratic nominee.
At the same time, there’s a context to that statement of hers that should be disclosed along with the quote: that she made the remark in response to a question asking her what she would do, if she were president and Iran launched a nuclear attack on Israel.
And so, while I disagree with her rhetoric and ideology behind the rhetoric, it is important to keep in mind that: A) she’s not just simply talking about an attack on Israel, but a nuclear attack,and B) it’s a hard-line stance taken in order to represent no hesitation in following any escalation of tactics that Iran might initiate, with the ultimate goal being to raise the stakes for Iran’s government so high that there would hopefully be no war at all.
Like I said, I disagree with the rhetoric and the ideology behind the rhetoric, but the statement is not quite so simple as her expressing a willingness — much less eagerness — to “obliterate” anyone.

Fair enough, Chestery. I don’t think anyone here would disagree with you. But the question remains re the very essence of political bullshit and what it’s built on.
This problem with this particular “rhetoric” is two fold. First, because Israel is NOT America. Would she “obliterate” Canada if Canada launched a nuclear attack on Spain? There is a terrible and dangerous connection between the State of Israel and the USA. Americans need to understand that most all of their problems are in fact BECAUSE of their blind and complete support for the oppressive actions of the State of Israel. The US kept calling itself an honest peace broker when it was anything but.
Anyone in the know, and I am certain you too would agree, that were America to actually play an “honest” role in the Middle East……..if America were to actually force the Israelis to adhere to International Law, then the US would be perceived differently on a global scale.
Second, this very rhetoric goes to the heart of the way Islam and Muslims are merely dismissed as collateral damage by the Americans.
That can never be accepted, not with a million and one voices trying to explain what Hillary Clinton said.
In the USA, there has to be a mass movement to stop this acceptance that Muslims = zero and that their deaths can be “rhetoric”.
You’re clearly a very intelligent guy, so to you it’s not a problem when she says things like this because you understand the deeper roots behind it. Most Americans are not…….and they accept her statement as validation for her bullshit rhetoric. THAT is the danger.
I don’t think we’re saying anything different here but still……you’re offering clarification for the context for what Clinton said and I’m offering clarification for the baseline response Maha’s posted here. It may be funny, but that’s only because Clinton’s comments are completely ludicrous.
Not that Obama’s any better and most definitely not because MccCain is any better. They’re all believe in the same pile of bullshit.

Where the F*** is she (and i do not use these words EVER) on the people of Gaza currently being obliterated by Isarel one a time.. a bunch with rockets, more through the blockade of food and medicine (to which the whole world is partner.. not just accessory after the fact) and more recently through obliterating the farms lest they contribute some food that will mess up Isarel’s publicly declared plan to put the people of Gaza on a diet? Dear OFC and commentators. I have been visiting this blog for several months having found it via a link from one of the many news and political sites that I visit daily. My compliments to all for the humor and insight.
With regard to the ‘big she’, my greater concern is the general sociapathic strain that seems to be a genetic trait of politicians in general. I am not a Hillary supporter, but the thought of insane McCain sitting in the Oval office smiling through gritted teeth and shitting his Depends while he launches multiple warheads is truly frightening. For either of them though, what is a bunch of dead children and molten glass and steel? My points are twofold: public statements of your eagerness to incinerate millions should result in a court-ordered pschiatric evaluation, not political handwringing; and we need a filter to excise such pathologies in the first place. To paraphrase someone much smarter than me, “how does shit, rather than cream, always seem to rise to the top in American politics?” I apologize for the pessimism, however absent circumstances that effects the daily lives of Americans, or Europeans (don’t get me started) I don’t see much hope for real change on the horizon.

I read about this too and I’m surprised that Obama hasn’t jumped on it!! I’ve never understood how the US can justify that a few folks (white people) can have nukes and not anyone else (not white people). The only people making nuclear threats are the Americans so TO ME it seems obvious that if ANYONE should have their nuke privileges taken away it’s them!!
Clinton and Obama and McCain are all dangerous assholes. Is that what it takes to make it into politics?

Ah, Hilary – always has something to prove. In this case, that she would have no compunction about committing a massacre. It seems like anyone who wants to be President must prove that they are not overly squeamish about killing people, especially those not considered, um, enough like ‘us’ to qualify as fully human.
Just imagine, though, if the leader of a Muslim country were to warn that if Israel were to attack them or one of their allies, that they could completely obliterate Israel.
Actually, isn’t that what the Isranian President has been accused of doing? Except my understanding is that he said no such thing, although some of the things he has said have been loopy enough.
