The Innocence

They wanted to go to the movies, but I made it clear that I wasn’t interested in giving my money to The Joker. Instead, and since we wanted momma to join us, we went to see Downton Abbey.

Momma and me used to watch the television show together during our sleepovers; while in NY, I saw the poster for the movie, and sent her a photo with an all caps WE WILL SEE THIS ASAP IN THEATERS.

Matching my excitement, she responded with ‘ok’.

Here’s why we loved this show, and why we loved the movie (Omar, by the way, was riveted and leaning forward in his seat) – it’s unapologetic innocence, and almost always rose-coloured glasses.

Honestly, when it feels like I want to scrub the filth of this dunya from my skin so often, time spent enjoying innocence is time well spent.

Today, I am grateful for:
1. Two weeks spent in a home exploding with love. Reemo and Omar leave at 4.30am and the quiet of The Cloud Cave will serve as a reminder of how much they are missed.
2. Movie popcorn drenched with butter across both the middle, and again on top.
3. The memos app.
